Mary Zimmerman’s production of “Metamorphoses” will end its Broadway run at the Circle on the Square Theatre on Feb. 16. But there’s talk in New York that the show may make the highly unusual move of returning off-Broadway — this time to the new Little Shubert Theatre.
“Metamorphoses,” which began life at Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company, has made a substantial profit on Broadway. By mid-February, it will have played more than 400 performances, but business reportedly has slowed in recent weeks.
In recent days, reports have surfaced that the Little Shubert, 422 W. 42nd St., is looking at the project — among several others. The Little Shubert needs a new tenant after its opening production, “Tommy Tune: White Tie and Tails,” closed prematurely. An official announcement is expected next week.
