Amtrak plans to seek as much as 67 percent more funding this year than last, for a total request of $1.5 billion to $2 billion. Chief Executive David Gunn will recommend the funding proposal to the railroad’s board, and if approved it likely would go to Congress in February. Congress is trying to resolve Amtrak’s $1.2 billion funding request for its current year.
