The Peace Corps resumed work in Peru on Monday, nearly three decades after a leftist military government ended the U.S. volunteer program there.
The initial 28 volunteers will work on small business development and community health projects in coastal and mountain regions across Peru, a nation about the size of Alaska.
President Alejandro Toledo invited the corps to return. Peace Corps volunteers once helped him win a partial scholarship to the University of San Francisco.
