The Blackhawks traded defenseman Lyle Odelein to the Dallas Stars Monday for defenseman Sami Helenius and a future draft choice.
Helenius, 29, was originally the fifth choice of Calgary in the 1992 NHL entry draft. The extra pick could range from a 6th to 8th-round pick in 2003 or 2004.
Odelein has seven goals, four assists and 77 penalty minutes this season and played for the 1993 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens.
