Give “Bulletproof Monk” credit for trying. It has a mystical holy man, a scroll promising godlike power and time-traveling Nazis. But it’s still dull. Chow Yun-Fat stars as the Monk with No Name, protector of an all-powerful scroll that is sought after by Nazis. They all end up in present-day New York, where the monk teams up with a pickpocket named Kar (Seann William Scott–Stiffler from “American Pie”) for the inevitable face-off with the Nazis. It’s a predictable, loud, quick-cut movie that looks like a music video. There are funny moments–Scott is a good comic actor and even Chow loosens up–but in the end “Bulletproof Monk” sinks under the lead-weight of its cliche-laden script. PG-13.
