An Ecuadorean priest wanted in connection with a $10 million corruption scheme in the government customs agency he ran has fled to the U.S., where he turned up in Miami, police said Friday.

Rev. Carlos Flores was named three years ago to lead Quito’s customs agency in a bid by former President Gustavo Noboa to clean up corruption. But Flores, missing since late last month and since suspended by the Catholic Church, now faces accusations of leading a ring that cost the nation $10 million.

Police tracked him to Miami and said he was taking steps to try to remain in the U.S.
