For the first time since August, the Detroit Tigers are on a winning streak.
The Tigers have won two in a row for the first time in a 66-game span, defeating the host Baltimore Orioles 6-1 Monday night behind a strong pitching performance by Nate Cornejo.
“There hasn’t been too much to be excited about. That’s why it’s quiet in here,” Cornejo said.
Dmitri Young had two RBIs and scored a run for the Tigers, whose last winning streak was a three-game run from Aug. 18-20 that started with a victory in Baltimore.
Detroit then went 9-55 before beating Tampa Bay Sunday and defeating the Orioles for the first time in four tries this year. The Tigers (5-25) still own the worst record in the majors.
Played on a chilly night and a soggy field, the game drew an announced crowd of 17,267–the smallest in the 12-year history of Camden Yards. There were only a few thousand in attendance.
Jeter ready for rehab
Derek Jeter took batting practice on the field for the first time since dislocating his left shoulder Opening Day and expects to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday. He could rejoin the Yankees May 13.
