I wonder if I am alone in feeling a certain amount of empathy for Jayson Blair. He is a young man who, given a position he wasn’t ready for, has destroyed his entire career. Most journalists work their way through the ranks at smaller papers, gaining experience in a relatively sheltered environment. Blair was given a lot of responsibility in the paper of record and it broke him. I can’t help feeling sorry for him.
