Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Ed Sherman asked PGA pros what they think is the toughest part of playing in the U.S. Open

1) JEFF SLUMAN

“The toughest part is learning a new course in 2 1/2 days. On the tour, you’re comfortable because you’ve been there before. At the Open, you almost feel like you’re a rookie. You have to figure everything out.”

2) BILLY ANDRADE

“The toughest part is not getting mentally fatigued. You’re playing a new course, and there are a lot of demands on your driver. You know you’re going to be in for a hard week. It’s not going to be easy.”

3) JERRY KELLY

“The toughest part is the driver. It puts a lot of pressure to hit the ball straight. If you don’t get it in the fairway, you’re done.”

4) LEE JANZEN

“Driving to the course is tough; the practice rounds are long; a lot more autographs; there is a lot more attention; it’s an unfamiliar area. There is a lot to soak in for a few days to get ready for that tournament.”

5) JOSE MARIA OLAZABAL

“It puts all my skills into challenge. I am playing against the odds when I play in that tournament because I never have been a good driver. But I like the challenge.

6) LEN MATTIACE

(After thinking about the question for a good 45 seconds) “I’d rather not say.”
