The Naperville City Council took steps this week that will pave the way for widening a stretch of Diehl Road just east of Eola Road.
The council approved allocating $656,000 in motor fuel tax funds to buy parcels along the road needed for the project.
The council also passed a resolution approving the purchase of six parcels along Diehl. The widening will require land acquisition in the form of right-of-way, temporary or permanent easements from 21 parcels in total.
The project involves widening the two-lane road to a five-lane highway from Country Club Boulevard to Old Diehl Road. The area is occupied by mostly commercial and industrial properties along with some townhouse and apartment complexes.
