I never thought I would have to defend heterosexual marriage. I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary. I wouldn’t trade this marvelous life trip with a wife and three children for anything else. The best gift to my wife is a copy of the great Mike Royko’s column from 1981, “A pact to cherish.” Royko, in essence, states that a loving marriage is more important than anything in the world–something “almost everybody wants but not everybody has.”
You can’t defend marriage by statistics or by looking to any one church for guidance. It is love’s mysterious way and a great master plan for assuring that the world should go on.
