Those who criticize teacher, sanitation and other unions should remember that it is the typically American trait of giving up our future for conveniences today that repeatedly gets us into these messes. At least the garbage strike could be resolved easily. We can increase pay to collectors, reduce landfill waste and overpackaging, and increase recycling. All collectors have to do is charge buildings by the pound for non-recyclable garbage.
