St. Louis Blues defenseman Barret Jackman, the NHL rookie of the year last season, will miss two to four weeks with a dislocated left shoulder.
The team said Jackman had an MRI on Friday, two days after he was injured in the third period of a 3-2 loss at Vancouver. Jackman headed to the locker room after Canucks winger Todd Bertuzzi caught him with his head down and leveled him behind the Blues’ net.
Jackman led the Blues with a plus-23 rating last season and had three goals and 16 assists. He had one goal in six games this season.
He joined a growing list of Blues defensemen on the sidelines. Team captain Al MacInnis is out indefinitely after surgery last week to repair a torn retina on his left eye.
The Blues are also without defensemen Bryce Salvador (wrist), Alexander Khavanov (foot) and Christian Laflamme (foot).
U.S.-born players on rise
The percentage of U.S.-born players in the NHL is at its highest point in six seasons.
Opening-day rosters contained 113 players from the United States, comprising 15.5 percent of the 728 players in the league. That is the highest it has been since 16 percent of players came from the United States in the 1997-98 season.
On the flip side, Canada has its lowest percentage of players ever. Only 52.1 percent of players have come from north of the border, a 26.2 percent decrease from 78.3 in 1983-84, according to NHL research.
Canadian players made up 53.6 percent last year, while 13 percent were from the United States in 2002-03.
There were 236 European-born players on opening-night rosters, two fewer than last year. The NHL includes players from 24 countries this season.

St. Louis 2 at Calgary 1
Jeff Heerema scored 46 seconds into the third period for the Blues. Doug Weight also scored for St. Louis. Chris Osgood made 25 saves for the Blues, including 15 in the third period.
Buffalo at Anaheim, late
Sergei Fedorov, who signed a $40 million, 5-year contract with the Ducks, has earned a point in each of the last three games. Fedorov has 27 points in 22 career games against the Sabres.
