Just like your plants, your gardening tools and supplies will benefit from a little extra attention this fall.

TLC for tools

Before winter, you should:

– Drain hoses and store them in a protected area.

– Drain and winterize irrigation lines.

– Clean pesticide sprayers.

– Store leftover pesticides in their original containers, locked in a cabinet in a place where they won’t freeze.

– Store fertilizers separately from pesticides.

– Place the original fertilizer bags inside plastic containers, such as garbage cans or heavy plastic bags, to keep out moisture.

– Clean garden tools, sharpen the blades and coat with a lubricant to keep them from rusting. Treat dry wood handles with linseed oil.
