Don’t think for a minute that Homewood-Flossmoor coach Roy Condotti felt any enjoyment in handing Lane Tech coach Frank Lollino Jr. his second loss of the season.
The 91-43 victory was secondary to Condotti, who was more caught up in catching up with some old-school blood lines.
“I knew him when he was a baby,” Condotti said of Lollino, the son of the late Frank Lollino Sr., under whom Condotti worked for 13 years at Westinghouse. “His father and I started out together in 1973.”
The top-ranked Vikings (6-0) were in vintage form, building a 49-15 lead by halftime before Condotti called off the dogs and played mostly reserves the rest of the way.
Homewood-Flossmoor 6-foot-8-inch junior Julian Wright was a man among boys. In 2 1/2 quarters, he totaled 11 points, eight assists, five blocks and four rebounds.
Excell Hardy added 14 points and Brian Nussbaum 13 points for the Vikings. Devin Scott led the Indians (2-2) with 12 points.
“Bar none, he is the best basketball coach in the state,” Lollino said of Condotti. “He cares about kids on and off the court. He is a big part of the Westinghouse blood line.”
