The AirTrain, a $1.9 billion, eight-mile rail line linking John F. Kennedy International Airport to the Long Island Rail Road’s station in Queens, will begin service Dec. 17, New York Governor George Pataki said. About 34,000 commuters per day are expected to use the automated system, developed by Bombardier, Inc., which will also connect the airport to Howard Beach, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
