On Feb. 23, 1969, my father, Steve Tartol, and others were attending a conference sponsored by the Northwest Community Organization. The meeting was at Trinity High School in Chicago. Paul Simon was at the podium.
During his speech, my father had a massive heart attack.
Simon showed great concern at that time and later, when he contacted our family. He also sent a floral tribute.
Paul Simon was truly a person in touch with the people.
