A 29-year-old man charged with four sexual assaults, including two this summer in Wicker Park, is scheduled to go to trial next month, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state’s attorney said.
Willie Moore, of the 3400 block of 12th Pl., was arrested in September and charged with assaulting a woman July 19 in the 1300 block of North Wicker Park Avenue. He was later charged with a June attack in the 2000 block of West LeMoyne Street.
Moore is in jail, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Moore’s DNA matched genetic evidence in two unsolved sexual assaults in Wicker Park, one in 2002 and one in 2000, state’s attorney spokeswoman Marcy Jensen said. The Feb. 9, 2000 attack happened at the 2100 block of North Campbell Avenue, and the Sept. 15, 2002 assault happened in the 1900 block of West Division Street.
Moore’s trial is set to start Jan. 15.
Dennis Robinson, who police believe worked in tandem with Moore in the attacks, will stand trial soon on charges of kidnapping and robbery for an August attack on a woman walking in the 1700 block of North Honore Street, Jensen said.
Robinson is also in jail. His next court appearance is Jan. 20.
Police are still searching for another suspect believed to be linked to at least eight sexual assaults or attempted assaults on the North Side in the summer and fall.
Officer Matthew Jackson said there have been no arrests or developments in the case.
Police have still not confirmed through DNA whether a rape on the West Side last month was committed by the same suspect, Jackson said. The description of the attacker and his vehicle in the West Side case are similar to the string of North Side attacks. The man is described as being between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 with a medium build, short, dark hair and a Spanish accent. He is believed to be driving a dark blue Grand Am.
