Hits! The Very Best of Erasure
Vince Clarke could have left Depeche Mode all those years ago and formed a band that sounded exactly like his former synth-pop outfit. Instead he formed Yaz and later Erasure, groups with love on the mind and flamboyantly melodramatic singers. “Hits!” can’t match the parade of ditties found on the earlier Erasure best-of “Pop!” But Clarke’s minimalism and singer Andy Bell’s pseudo-soulfulness still transcend the trappings of the ’80s.
