A criminal trial against the owners and operators of the E2 nightclub is unlikely before spring 2004 because of the massive amount of evidence to be reviewed in the case, said Cook County Assistant State’s Atty. Robert Egan.
Egan on Thursday turned over a 6-inch-thick stack of police reports to lawyers for club owner Dwain Kyles, his alleged associate, Calvin Hollins Jr, nightclub manager Calvin Hollins III and event promoter Marco Flores. The four were charged with involuntary manslaughter for creating a hazardous environment that led to the deaths of 21 people in a stampede at the Near South Side club in February.
A status conference in the case is scheduled for Jan. 29.
Egan said some 35,000 pages of witness statements, medical reports and other documents ultimately will be turned over to the defense.
“There are no real secrets in there,” he said.
