TWO-MINUTE DRILL (If you read slowly)
– Denver’s Clinton Portis became the third player in NFL history to reach 1,500 rushing yards in his first two seasons. His ankle injury makes him questionable this week, spectacular on every other.
– Baltimore’s Todd Heap (55 catches) is the only tight end in the NFL to lead his team in catches. He’s also the only tight end named “Todd Heap.”
– Bucs DT Warren Sapp (77 sacks) needs two more to pass Bucs leader Lee Roy Selmon, who played his entire career in those gaudy orange costumes.
– In 38 Ravens games when RB Jamal Lewis and LB Ray Lewis play together, Baltimore is 25-13. When they don’t, they each get a timeout in the corner.
– Cleveland P Chris Gardocki hasn’t had a kick blocked in a NFL-record 968 punts. Next: Cage match vs. Jackie Chan.
– Packers QB Brett Favre (341 TD passes) needs two more to pass Fran Tarkenton for second-most in NFL history.
Mandatory Bears item
As required by the Federal
Bears Coverage Act of 1986.
In an amazing stretch between 1937 and 1943 the Redskins and the Bears met for the NFL championship four times. The Redskins won 28-21, then the Bears won 73-0 three years later. The Redskins won again 14-6 in 1942 but the Bears came back to win 41-21 the next year. Extensive RedEye research reveals that no current player on either the Bears or Redskins rosters attended any of these games.
