This semester the Civil and Architectural Engineering department at the Illinois Institute of Technology will offer a homeland security building design class that is open to CAE students as well as professionals in law enforcement, architecture and other fields. Seminars and speakers will focus on how to protect buildings against explosions, fire, break-ins and contaminations. For information, call 312-567-3629.

In response to a national shortage of math teachers, students at National-Louis University can now get a master’s degree in mathematical education. This new program is geared toward teachers who are focused on intermediate and middle level teaching of math in Grades 3 through 8.

Roosevelt University’s doctoral program in clinical psychology, which began in 1996, was granted a three-year accreditation by the American Psychological Association. The accreditation won’t change the set-up of the psychology program but simply recognizes the school for excellence in programming and teacher training.

Columbia College administrator Robert Enrietto, who helped created the school’s Semester in L.A. program, died of a heart attack Dec. 27. He was 62. Enrietto, a 1967 Columbia graduate, helped develop the curriculum at CBS Studio Center in Studio City, Calif., which includes screenwriting, costume and styling, entertainment journalism, movie marketing, and publicity.

The Illinois Institute of Art–Chicago will host the Best Teen Chef in Chicago contest this year. Preliminary entries, which include a menu with descriptions for a two-course meal, are due Feb. 14. Ten finalists will be chosen to compete in the kitchens on March 27. The winner will advance to the America’s Best Teen Chef competition, which will be held in May in Orange County, Calif.
