Gary Griffin’s London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Pacific Overtures” snagged a whopping eight nominations from London’s prestigious Olivier Awards.
Nominations were announced Thursday; winners will be named Feb. 22 in London.
The Donmar Warehouse production was presented in collaboration with the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, where the production originated. It was nominated for best musical entertainment. The Chicago-based Griffin was nominated for best director, while Chicago costumer Mara Blumenfeld was nominated for best costume design for her work on the production.
Another hit London show with a Chicago connection (in conception, at least) also got eight nominations: “Jerry Springer: The Opera.”
