A man wanted in the slayings of three members of his girlfriend’s family shot himself in the chest and blew himself up in a stolen car in a fiery blast Friday as police tried to pull him over, authorities said.

Donald Robinson Barnhart, 31, set off an explosive after state police turned on their lights and sirens, an official said.

Barnhart had been wanted on criminal homicide charges in the shooting deaths of his girlfriend’s sister, Rhonda Walters, 35; her husband, David Lee Walters, 27; and their 19-month-old daughter, Destini. The child also was stabbed, police said. The victims were found dead Tuesday in their mobile home.
