From the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean comes this Carneros appellation chardonnay. The region, just north of San Francisco Bay, specializes in chardonnay and pinot noir. This 2002 Acacia was blended from the grapes of a handful of growers, according to the winemaker.
A deep gold in color, it impressed with its lovely toasty nose. It had a buttery taste and good body, with an elegant, dry finish that lingered. It was big without being over-oaked or too buttery. Serve it on its own, with a crumbly chalky cheese, such as a farmhouse Cheddar, and toasted almonds, or pair it with a rich seafood and cream soup. The price: $20.
