Donald Trump was apparently no match for a bunch of bad singers.

“American Idol” dominated TV ratings for the third night in a row Wednesday, pulling in 29.4 million viewers; only 12.3 million tuned in to “The Apprentice.”

Though an hour of “Idol” auditions wouldn’t be nearly so entertaining if they weren’t so painful to watch, The Associated Press suggests these sure-fire success strategies for “Idol” hopefuls:

– Simon Cowell is a sucker for any Righteous Brothers song, especially “Unchained Melody.”

– Old pop (pre-1970) gets the judges’ attention since tunes from that era are the songs of their youth.

– Dancing is an open invitation to ridicule.

– Being a good-looking blond–male or female–is an asset.

When the judges laugh at you, they are laughing at you, not with you.
