NFL star Keyshawn Johnson has found trouble a lot easier than he found himself open this season on the football field.

Johnson, the controversial wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been hit with both a restraining order and a lawsuit brought against him by his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, who claims Johnson has repeatedly threatened to hurt or kill him since October 2003.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday, the same day Johnson was robbed of money and jewelry at gunpoint in Berkeley while standing outside a barbershop, according to police. No arrests have been made.

In a restraining order request filed Jan. 14 and a subsequent lawsuit filed Wednesday in Alameda County Superior Court, John Mahannah Jr. said there were many other incidents where Johnson allegedly called his phone and threatened to beat him up, kill him or have others inflict violence on him.

According to court documents, Johnson must stay 100 yards away from Mahannah and his two children until the restraining order can be reviewed by a judge Feb. 6 in Oakland.

Mahannah began dating Johnson’s ex-wife last August.
