A World War II veteran and longtime Chicago Tribune pressman, Dave Stoller made a point of speaking well of others. “He never had a bad word for anybody,” said his wife, Dorothy. Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Stoller, 80, died of cancer Monday, Jan. 26, in his Barrington home. After graduating from high school, he lived in the city and held a variety of jobs there. He served in the Pacific with the Army from 1943 to 1946, attaining the rank of private first class. A family connection helped him get a job as a pressman with the Tribune around 1950, his wife said. A Mason, he met his wife at a Masonic social event, marrying in 1974. As members of the Northwest Suburban Shrine Club, they attended many Shriner events, his wife said. Mr. Stoller retired in 1985 and moved from Chicago to Barrington. Other survivors include his stepson, Allen Cress, and five step-grandchildren. Services have been held.
