David Orr, Cook County clerk, hit the nail on the head in “Illinois primary is an exercise in futility” (Voice of the people,” Jan. 26). Many voters are tired of having Iowa, New Hampshire and other early primary voters decide who will be on our primary ballot when it is finally our turn to vote.

Orr’s solution of dividing the nation into four regions of comparable populations and rotating the primary voting date so that each region has a shot at going first is a good one. Another solution would be to hold the primary election on the same day all over the nation. It would help if all candidates were limited in the amount of money they are allowed to spend in their campaigns.
