More than a dozen families in Lockport returned to their homes late Sunday morning after being evacuated in the wake of a house explosion Saturday night.
Lockport Township fire officials evacuated about 15 homes on the 1300 block of McCameron Avenue after a ruptured gas main east of Farrell Road caused the explosion, said Lockport Township Fire Battalion Chief John Kure.
“We figure [the gas] migrated underground and got into that house,” Kure said.
The occupant of the destroyed house at 1334 McCameron Ave. was watching TV with a friend at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday, officials said. They escaped before the explosion, which could be heard a block away, according to witnesses.
