This is in response to Georgia Anne Geyer’s column “What difference does a military career make?” (Commentary, Feb. 6).
I have come to the conclusion that this war simply does not affect the lives of a vast majority of Americans.
They tune in once in a while for an update, but for the most part, most Americans simply go about the business of their daily lives with nary a thought of the war in Iraq and its consequences. Perhaps if we brought back the draft, more people would pay attention.
If citizens knew that they or their sons or daughters might be drafted for war, they might start paying closer attention to the actions of our president.
Bringing back the draft would wake up the complacent and apathetic attitudes of the majority of Americans.
