Perhaps the title of “The Passion of the Christ” should be completed with the phrase “according to Mel Gibson.” We ought not to confuse the film with the passion narratives of the Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The film is written and directed from Gibson’s personal point of view. It’s art, not doctrine or theology or biblical scholarship. If a person wishes information on the Passion of Christ, the place to look is not in the film but in the source documents.
