It’s the most accursed sphere in Chicago’s history, but we should all live the life of the Steve Bartman ball. At least the last 24 hours of it.

The foul ball that was deflected from the Cubs’ Moises Alou in Game 6 still is headed to pyrotechnic oblivion at 7:31 p.m. Thursday at Harry Caray’s.

But on the eve of its destruction, the ball gets a trip–by armored car, with 11 armed guards–to Wrigley Field “just to say goodbye,” said Grant DePorter of Caray’s restaurants. After, at the Amalfi Hotel Chicago, a fluffed pillow, luxury suite and even a masseuse will await.

A server from Harry Caray’s will present the last meal of steak, lobster and a Budweiser, all of which will be on roped-off display to the public.
