Purdue coach Gene Keady is considering disciplinary action against senior center Ivan Kartelo, who was charged Sunday with misdemeanor battery and public intoxication.
Keady is collecting information about the incident, which occurred early Sunday.
“We are talking to the player and getting the facts,” Keady said. “We take it seriously, and we want to be thorough before taking any action.”
According to police records, Kartelo was arrested leaving the Wabash Yacht Club, a tavern near the campus in West Lafayette, Ind. He was released from county jail Sunday afternoon.
`Life and death’ for Terps
Maryland, not Duke or North Carolina, leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with 10 straight NCAA tournament bids. But after Sunday’s 86-63 loss at Duke and with four games left, the Terps (13-10, 4-8) have little margin for error.
“It’s like life and death,” sophomore guard John Gilchrist said.
The Terps had 23 turnovers and shot below 40 percent (37.3) for the third straight game.
