The father of nine, Richard Edward Police, 69, spent much of his life holding more than one job. “He did whatever he had to do to put food on the table and a roof over our heads,” said his wife, Eileen. A resident of Schaumburg for 34 years, Mr. Police died of cancer Wednesday, Feb. 18, in his home in Inverness, Fla., where he had lived since 1994. Mr. Police was born in Chicago and raised in Wilmette, where he attended Catholic schools. He left high school after three years to join the Navy in 1952, serving until 1955. He married his wife the same year. The couple had met in middle school. Mr. Police received a GED while in the military, and he took night classes at DePaul University while working during the day. After moving to Schaumburg in 1960 he worked, part time on the police force. The position turned into a full-time job, and he kept it for 10 years. He also worked part time as a police officer in South Barrington and drove a truck on the side. For many years he worked in security for Sears, Roebuck & Co. After retiring in 1994, Mr. Police was active in his Florida community, donating blood and delivering meals to the homebound. Other survivors include seven sons, Christopher, Michael, Dennis, Patrick, Brian, Timothy and Kevin; two daughters, Marijo Hunt and Caryn; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday in Church of the Holy Spirit, 1451 Bode Rd., Schaumburg.
