Thanks to Tribune staff reporter Dan Mihalopoulos for bringing attention to the inept recycling program (“City in the dumps over recycling lag; Blue bags tossed for pilot program in North Side ward,” Page 1, Feb. 24). He points out one of the key issues in the problem, namely the burden on the resident to procure the container or bag to store the recycled material. The article neglected to mention, however, another key problem. Simply taking a closer look at the photo accompanying the article highlights this obvious problem. Do we really believe city workers climb through mounds of garbage to extract every blue bag from the mixture of various garbage types? It’s a waste of everyone’s effort to recycle if the blue bags merely end up with the rest of the heap.
