Sushi X

1136 W. Chicago Ave. 312-491-9232

“Although the restaurant is on the small side, it has a nice ambience. The service is good, and the quality is great. This is a lot cheaper than where I normally go, and the portions are much bigger. The only downside is that I’m out of the [restaurant’s] delivery area.”

–Jen U.

“Expect high-end quality and quantity sushi for cheap prices. I’ve eaten in a lot of sushi places, but this has got to be the best. The spicy shrimp maki and dragon roll are to die for! I’ll be going back.”

–Jen S.

“What kind of sushi place has no tap water or hot green tea? The spicy tuna roll was so hot that I had to buy extra bottles of water to cool myself down! This is a pure rip-off given the small menu and limited atmosphere.”

–A.P.

“Worth every cent! The best sushi I’ve ever had! The Godzilla roll is a must-try item, and the spider roll is pretty amazing. The restaurant is a little short on the beverages, but the food more than makes up for it.”

–Jim N.

Ra Sushi

1139 N. State St. 312-274-0011

“For the price of sushi at other places, this is refreshing. It has a look of Japonais on a smaller scale, plus without the outrageous bill. The waitstaff is young and hip. A must-try is the garlic shrimp.”

–R.T.

“Having tried most of the sushi restaurants in Chicago, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ra ranks up there with the best. Although it’s not a big place, Ra has a small, cozy dining area and a separate bar area. Service is friendly, attentive and helpful, and the sushi is very fresh. I highly recommend the scallop appetizer and the Tootsie roll. Prices are reasonable as well.”

Tank

4514 N. Lincoln Ave. 773-769-2600

“This is by far the best sushi I’ve ever had. I went three times last week. Two of the three times I had to wait well over an hour after ordering before the food arrived. So bring an extra bottle of wine–it’s worth the wait.”

–Marisa M.

“The vegetable tempura was chewy and the shrimp tempura didn’t taste right at all, plus both were really salty. The spicy tuna roll wasn’t fresh. First time I’ve been to a restaurant in Chicago and sent my food back.”

–M.C.

“Tank is one of the hottest new Asian restaurants to hit Chicago! It’s located in Lincoln Square and has amazing food. The sushi is out of this world and the dumplings are awesome. I heard about this place at work and decided to go with a couple of friends and the service as well as the atmosphere is incredible. The only thing is that there was a wait, so if you go on the weekend, call for reservations.”

–Oliver J.

“I appreciated the variety of vegetarian options, and the decor is simply stylish and modern. The service was excellent and personable each time that I visited.”

–Amy M.

Izumi

“Great food! Everything is so fresh. Great prices, and it’s a chic and cozy place.”

–Matt J.

“It is a beautiful treasure on a hidden corner of Randolph. They not only sell great sushi but offer creative decor and professional service also.”

–C.L.

Saiko

1307 S. Wabash Ave. 312-922-2222

“The crispy Kobe beef roll is amazing and the ahi tuna with foie gras is–for lack of a better word–truly orgasmic. The waitstaff was very attentive and not at all overwhelming.”

–S.W.

“Absolutely wonderful from the moment I walked in. I would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great service and incredible food. The sushi and sashimi are so flavorful.”

–S.G.

“Obviously, if you wanted hard-core traditional Japanese sushi, you’d go somewhere else. But if you want to get a sense for what the Tokyo hipsters might be eating, drinking and thrilling to, you’d go to the fabulous fusion of style and flavor that is Saiko.”
