Thank you so much for columnist Dennis Byrne’s “You don’t have to believe to appreciate `Passion'” (Commentary, March 1). It certainly gave me a great impetus and opportunity to revisit the general Catholic belief, among others, that Jesus suffered and died for my sins and to re-evaluate what my response to that mystery should be. I have not seen the movie, but after taking a very deep breath, I will. And thank you specifically for the gutsy statement: “At their hearts, war or abortion are the spawn of hatred, loathing, selfishness and lovelessness.”

I firmly believe there are hundreds of millions who agree wholeheartedly with the statement. I think our country must come to grips with both these issues in order to improve ourselves and our world and show more worthiness, to the extent possible, of the great redemptive act, the Passion.
