Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California on Sunday criticized federal regulation of food supplements as misguided.
Wrapping up his annual bodybuilding and fitness exposition, Arnold Fitness Weekend, Schwarzenegger said he has long opposed regulation of such supplements by the Food and Drug Administration.
“I have rarely seen the government do anything that was effective,” the governor told about 500 people taking part in a special fitness training seminar led by the former bodybuilding champion, who proposed better labeling and higher industry standards.
Schwarzenegger vowed to use his leadership role in the sport to encourage a return to more natural training for bodybuilders and discourage use of supplements or steroids.
