Champaign native Bonnie Blair could be among those honored when the U.S. Olympic Committee has its first Hall of Fame induction since 1992. The nationally televised ceremonies will be July 1 at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theater. Hall of Famers Bob Beamon (long jump), Debbie Meyer (swimming) and Niles West grad Bart Conner (gymnastics) will be in Chicago, where the first induction was held in 1983, for Wednesday’s announcement of the event’s revitalization. Gold-medal winners Blair, (speedskating), Jackie Joyner-Kersee, (heptathlon) and Janet Evans (swimming) are among the legends nominated for the Class of 2004. Voting is open to the public at www.usolympicteam.com.
