It would take a huge blunder to put a stop to Danger Mouse’s momentum. Fresh off the heels of what turned out to be the marketing ploy of the millennium, “The Grey Album,” Danger Mouse’s blend of The Beatles and Jay-Z, the L.A.-based producer has the whole world ready and waiting for his next brainstorm. In that regard, the “Twenty Six Inch” EP is something of a letdown. Jemini, the rapping half of this hip-hop duo, continues to be an obstacle in appreciating Danger Mouse’s madcap production, from last year’s “Ghetto Pop Life” up to now. For every delicious whiff of ’60s pop that Danger Mouse breathes into hip-hop, Jemini’s 2-Pac-on-helium voice and verging-on-parody rhymes constantly threaten to bring the high down. But if you find yourself wondering which hip-hop producers are still taking chances, Danger Mouse might give you a reason to keep listening.
