The Big Ten could lose out on future
NCAA revenue because it only fielded three teams in this season’s tournament, its fewest since 1984. That means Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan State need to stay a few rounds to help make up for the loss. Northwestern can help, too–by calculating how far each team needs to go.
2. Painting the corners
A man who coated a baseball with 18,000 coats of green paint is trying to get the 1,300-pound glob entered into the
Guinness World Book of Records as the biggest ball of paint. But forget the record, we finally have a giant, green baseball to take on Fenway’s giant Green Monster. Now if we can just get Gary Sheffield or Jason Giambi to hit it.
3. In name only
Former Notre Dame and Miami Dolphins lineman Bob Kuechenberg hadn’t even noticed that four of his six championship rings were missing until the West Palm Beach, Fla., sheriff’s department was told someone else was seen with them. Kuechenberg’s old position? Guard.
4. Noggin notion
New Bears lineman John Tait, a hulk at
6-foot-6, 323 pounds, was thankful the team found a hat in his size, because “I got a big head.” That’s great and all, but collectors won’t be too happy when his bobblehead keeps tipping over.
5. Making a Sims-sational recovery
Cubs pitcher Kent Mercker has missed all of the spring game
with back stiffness, so he threw a “simulated” game Monday.
The tipoffs were the green diamonds hanging over each batter’s head and the digital Jacuzzi at second base.
