Thanks for today’s column about baldness. (“Rugs, drugs, plugs: Just say no,” column by Jimmy Greenfield, March 16.) I am so happy that someone has presented this perspective on it!
While I, myself, do not have hair loss, one of my best friends does, and my father did at a very young age. I don’t know what my father feels about his head, but I know that my friend, now 32, is concerned about it. He is not obsessed at all (that I can notice), but he thinks about it. He also happens to be one of the most gorgeous men ever born, with eyes that won’t quit!
Truth be told, as a gay man, I find bald/balding men very sexy! I agree with you that this is not an illness that needs a “cure.” I tend to get really annoyed at a seemingly common female perception (and from some gay men too) that hair loss is a bad thing, not to mention “unibrows.” That kind of pickiness bugs me.
