Two west suburban teenagers who sparked a multistate police search when they ran away this weekend were found resting in a park early Monday in southeast Michigan, about 300 miles from their homes, authorities said.
A 15-year-old boy from Elmhurst and his 15-year-old girlfriend from Carol Stream were found at 1 a.m. They were sitting in an idling white Dodge automobile that the boy took from his parents’ home Saturday morning, authorities said.
The boy was asleep in the driver’s seat, and the girl sat awake beside him, said police in Carleton, Mich., a town of 3,000 about 30 miles southeast of Ann Arbor.
Carleton police turned over the boy later Monday to Elmhurst police, who charged him with possessing a stolen car and felony theft. The theft charge was for taking cash, a TV and a DVD player with a combined value of more than $300 from his parents’ home.
The girl will not face criminal charges, a Carol Stream police spokesman said.
