Family members fondly remembered Lorraine Nowicki’s love of potato chips. “She had bowls of chips all over her house and would offer them to anyone who came to visit,” said her daughter, Noreen Keen. “You could always tell if mom was in the next room, because you’d hear the crunching.” Mrs. Nowicki, 76, formerly of Chicago and Roselle, a homemaker and retired dental assistant, died of pneumonia Wednesday, March 17, in her home in Tucson, Ariz. Born in Chicago, Mrs. Nowicki grew up on the South Side and graduated from Bowen High School in 1945. Family members said she maintained friendships with several of her high school classmates. “She had a monthly ladies club, where they’d all get together and talk about their families,” said her daughter. “When I called one of the women to tell her about my mom’s passing, she knew exactly who I was and most of my life’s history.” As a young mother, Mrs. Nowicki lived on the South Side with her family. , where she was the president of St. Bride’s School Mothers Club. After moving to Roselle in 1969, she worked for several years as an assistant and claims processor for two dentists. She was a member of the Welcome Wagon of Roselle and volunteered with the Jaycees. In 1987, Mrs. Nowicki moved to Tucson with her husband of 56 years, Norbert. “She was just a warm, generous person, whose radiant smile always made you feel good,” her daughter said. Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. Nowicki is also survived by a son, Richard; another daughter, Nancy Obermaier; and six grandchildren.
