Cell phones are getting smaller. Computers are getting smaller. So why not a bicycle map?
Highland Park has shrunk its “greenways map,” a path finder for bicyclists, walkers and runners, into a pocket-size format.
Until now, the maps measured an unwieldy 2 square feet when fully unfolded.
Created in 1995 and updated last year, the newest edition of the route finder can be tucked inside a bike bag, a jacket or a pair of shorts.
The new version is “a snazzy little map,” said Michael Blue, director of community development for Highland Park, which has eight miles of bikeways, including the Green Bay and Skokie Valley Trails.
Thousands of the wallet-size versions will be available free at local bike shops and through the Park District starting in April, he said.
