Barbara Ann Crouch, nee Kurtz, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in Trumbull. She graduated from Bassick High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, in 1949. She studied Law at DePaul University. Barbara was in the Pi Beta Phi sorority at Cornell and remained active in alumni chapters of the sorority throughout the rest of her life, becoming a Pi Phi Golden Arrow. She married Claybourne Addison (Bud) Crouch on April 7, 1951, and they were married for over 52 years with a daughter, Lori (Crouch) Lemmon, born in 1962. In the early years of her professional life, Barbara was a millinery buyer for Hahne & Company in Newark, NJ, before becoming Office Manager of Employers Mutual of Wausau Insurance in River Forest, IL. She then became Secretary Treasurer of Chicago Conveyor Corporation in Addison, IL, where she worked along with her husband Bud for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Process Equipment Manufacturers Association for 15 years and very involved in the early development of Oak Brook through the York Woods Community Association. Barbara was also a board member of George Williams College for many years and a Director of Water and Waste Water Process Equipment Manufacturers Insurance Company. Also she was a member of Purdue University President’s Council for over 15 years. She was a skier, golfer and avid traveler. She and her husband were members of Hinsdale Golf Club for over 25 years. Beloved wife of Bud; loving mother of Lori (Timothy) Lemmon of Roswell, GA; dear grandmother of Erin K.; fond sister of Charles J. Kurtz Jr. of Sheldon, CT. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elliston Funeral Home, First and Grant Sts., Hinsdale.
