It can’t be easy being a Hollywood couple. The success of MTV’s “Newlyweds” has given Jessica Simpson’s album a huge boost, while Nick Lachey’s music career has stalled.
But Mr. Simpson isn’t giving up. He’s following Jess to ABC and will co-star on the comedy pilot “Hot Mom,” starring Gina Gershon as a single mom who lives a wilder life than her teen daughter. Lachey will play a struggling actor who does odd jobs for Gershon. Sound familiar?
Meanwhile, Simpson is really stretching her acting chops too. She’ll star as a pop-culture phenom named Jessica Sampson who takes a job as an on-air reporter on a news magazine.
“It’s like reality-meets-script, kind of like how ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ was done,” Simpson told mtv.com, “but not as much, because there’s more script than that. But a lot of it will be just seeing how much of a fool I can make of myself. I don’t mind. Laugh at yourself, you know?”
Yeah, we know.
