The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the U.S.Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency recommend the following tips to save fuel.
– Driving at 75 miles per hour instead of 65 will cut fuel economy by 10 percent.
– Plan trips or stagger work hours to minimize stop-and-go driving, which burns more gas than going a steady speed. Cars idling at traffic lights get 0 m.p.g.
– Carrying an extra 100 pounds in the trunk reduces fuel economy by about 1 percent.
