Rev. Brian Jordan’s column on the issue of withholding Communion from Catholic politicians was right on the mark. He observes that ” . . . neither the Republicans nor the Democrats are in full compliance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.”
Rather than barring political leaders from Communion, the bishops should encourage Catholics–and all men and women of good will–to take what they believe into the public square. That’s where their voices, energy and action can make a difference.
